Main attractions: Located at the intersection of the 3rd, 10th and 11th arrondissements, Place de la République recently had a shiny new makeover in an attempt to make the formerly scruffy, unwelcoming square a gathering place, with a new budget-friendly café that opens early and stays open late, and wide-open space for everything from skateboarding to the requisite French demonstration on the historic square built as a monument to France Third Republic. This makes it quite popular with younger travelers looking to go out. The Absolute’s neighborhood, near République and Canal Saint-Martin, is quite busy and offers lots of cheap eating and nightlife options. Light sleepers may want to look elsewhere or pack some ear plugs, though, as this hotel can get a bit noisy. Even better? The central location is near plenty of restaurants, and the hotel staff receives high marks for being friendly, attentive, and helpful. Many former guests love the fun, funky vibe at Absolute Paris Hostel, with graffiti walls and exposed ceiling beams. Be prepared, though, to pay a €2 deposit for your towel, or else pack your own.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and there is also a free Internet station. Shabby chic reigns here.ĭecked out with a flat-screen television, party-hat-shaped lights, exposed brick walls, vending machines and what must surely be one of the world’s largest clocks, the lobby buzzes with activity. Furniture and linens are homey and well worn. The hotel provides private single, double and triple rooms, each equipped with a television and private bath. Located a few blocks from bustling République, the hip without frills Absolute Hotel is one of Paris’s “funky” accommodations, offering private rooms at reasonable rates hovering around €168 (or €144 in the low season).
